Exciting Time in SF SOMA for Business and Web Design
This month I finally took the plung.... a NEW office in the heart of San Francisco at NextSpace Co-working!
This is not the first time I have had a great place to work, but never in a city and never with so many people. The co-working world is booming in the US, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have visited or presented at many co-working spaces, but many lack the professional look of an office you would want to bring your clients to. At NextSpace I feel totally comfortable bringing clients and will be hosting a Joomla Bay Area meetup here on February 29th, 2012.
So, for the first time in my life I am commuting to work via bus and MUNI, which is surprisingly enjoyable. I feel more a part of society while listening to the various languages, people young and old, and all levels of income or careers. So cheers to the city of San Francisco... I have always loved you, but now I am part of you. May the business flow and the creativity thrive!
Joomla Video Book 1.7 and 2.5 Released
After a lot of work writing the scripts, recording and doing take after take, I am excited to announce that my video book was released by Pearson Publishing to the PeachPit IT Network, Safari Books Online and a number of other video book networks.
Though the video book was based on a written book teaching the latest Joomla version, I was instructed to not use that book in my writing for the video version. PeachPit and Pearson wanted the videos to be unique, easy to follow and give a general overview with examples and complete description of the front and back-end of Joomla.
There are over 10 sections to the video book that covers everything from installing Joomla, understanding the new Joomla ACL, and how to use each component that loads with every Joomla installation by default.
Joomla Online Training Book by James
I was happy to be hired this month to create an Online Video Book for PeachPit Press.
The book will be the video version of the Joomla! Quickstart Guide and will feature the new Joomla! 1.6, coming soon to this site (now Joomla! 1.5). It will be available at Safari Books Online and other sites that sell book and training subscriptions.
It is evident that the entire learning and book/publishing industry has completely changed after many years of new technology being created for education and training. This is exciting but it also begs the question... "is training person-to-person still important?".
My answer to the question is a definite YES, and in fact lets hope people remember to value the connections we make when learning together. After doing more in-person training this past year I find it is much more fulfilling for me personally and more effective to my clients and trainees. Though many people think they can learn it on their own, I being one of those over the years, life and business has become much more complex... thus harder to learn.
